Purchase with confidenceGreat product purchased to extend the life of my boots. These are more slip-resistant than the typical plastic heel plate and less noisy when walking on hard surfaces. My shoemaker was very impressed with the design. 5Maybe I am missing something, but I cut these ...Maybe I am missing something, but I cut these down to size a bit, put them on my daughter's boot heels with the little nails, and they came off in the first wearing. The heels are a rubbery plastic themselves, so I wonder if there is just not enough for the nail to bite into. I might try little screws. 1A very good product !!!!!!!!!!Man, i love it !!!!!!!!!! All of my shoes have it fitted, I love the fact that it does not make any walking noses at all. A real good quailty product, very please with it , very pleaseThank You 5Plastic tapsThey are what they are. a good item, though I had to drill out the holes in each tap as they are formed but not open. Have put them on two pairs of boots, both with western heels so there was some trimming involved. Overall, a good product for the money I spent.. 4Great product for my needs!!!!I usually cut them to size, they last a long time and I try to put them on all of my shoes and even sneakers. I usually walk the heels down on all of my shoes on one side and these last longer than the other shoe heel replacements that I usually buy. 5better than the black plastic taps.. slightly larger than the black plastic ones ... last/wear longerthese are a great to the black plastic we've all used for years.... I put about five miles a day on streets walking my dog...went to the local shoe store that put tge black plastic ones on.....six weeks later replaced em with these, a eight -ten months later just now replacing these that I'd put on... not completely worn through bjt getting thin so thoughtbit time to replace with new ones..... sure beats the hundred I paid to put new vibrem soles on my boots... now have these on all my shoes & boots... 5Savers!If you like good shoes they're worth their weight in gold. 5Money SaverI have had a cobbler add taps to my dress shoes before. This route is much more cost effective. These taps cover a larger area and in my opinion are more durable. The provided nails are a pain to put in. They can bend if you're not careful. I have not had any of the nails work their way loose yet after more than a month wearing them on a pair of dress shoes I wear 2 to 3 times a week. Even though they are bright yellow they are not noticeable and they are quiet on hard floors. Highly recommend and will purchase again when needed. 5Extend the life of your favorite boots.When I first received this product, I had my doubts that it would work since it was held in place with small nails. I bought it to use on my favorite work boots since I wore them daily and put them through the most hell. The boots have a soft sole and all my previous pairs always wore unevenly. Using these heel protectors has extended my boot life to over a year, where before I had to trash them after only 6 months. I also use a little Shoe Goo to keep it in place and to avoid the edges from snagging at while on a jobsite. And they wear down perfect to my side step. 5Good product, but does require some attention to detail.These shoe repair supplies are like most other shoe repair supplies - they will require some trimming to get a good fit and you will have to do a little research if you want to use them properly (and effectively.) These are sized quite large so that they can be used with most (not all, but most) shoes, so you need to be aware that you will have to trim them to fit your individual need. This is not difficult, but does require you to be able to dry fit (place them on the shoe that needs repair without adhesive), mark, and trim somewhat neatly. Depending on the wear pattern, this can take some attention to detail in order to get a nice, flat bottom on the shoe being repaired.These are made of softer material (a rubber, or rubber-like material, from what I can tell) and will not click or 'tap' when you walk, which is nice, but remember, the softer the material the more quickly it will wear, and you are placing these in the highest wear location of your shoes. They come with nails, which are meant only for use on shoes with wooden heels only (shoes with softer sole materials cannot take a nail - with this type of shoe you need to use a high quality contact adhesive that is designed for shoe repair. Once properly adhered to the shoe and the adhesive has cured (read the directions on the adhesive for specifics) you'll need to trim away any excess material that extends past the outer edges of your heel (with some shoes there will be a LOT of excess - don't worry about it, just trim it away.) I used these to repair camp mocs, which have a soft sole material similar to boat shoes, by using a contact adhesive that a shoe repairman recommended and had no issues. for wooden heeled shoes, I prefer to use a full-heel replacement rather than heel taps, like these. Use your own judgement on that, but you can get all the materials you need for either type of repair on this site.I have not had these long enough to speak to how long they wear, but wear is very specific to the person wearing the shoe (weight, gait, surfaces you walk on, etc., etc.) They seem durable enough, although they are definitely not made of Vibram. Still, there are enough pieces here to easily repair a number of shoes, or perform future repairs on the same shoe once these begin to wear (again, this is going in the highest wear location of you shoe, so don't expect them to last forever.) 4
