Customer Reviews

EarPlanes do work for me somewhat, but there are some things I want to share about itWhen I first read the reviews for these, I was extremely excited about them. For me, when the playing is taking off my ears are perfectly fine so I don't need them for that. I only have a terrible experience when the plane descends. My ears will go through excruciating pain once the flight hits the 45 minute mark before landing. My ears would pop really bad to the point where tears are coming out of my eyes. After I get off the plane, I would try to just hold my breath, pinch my nose and blow into my nose. That never worked for me and it made the pain a hundred times worse. The first time I did it, it made my ears really bad and I never did it again. My ears would still be bad for a whole week, which makes the trip less enjoyable.Ever since I tried EarPlanes, they've helped a lot. The thing is, my ears still do pop but it's not as bad as before. I put these on 1 hour and 15 minutes before landing just because I get nervous if they don't work. You can definitely put these on 45 minutes before, or whatever other reviews suggest. I noticed that when the plane hits the 45 minute mark, my ears are still perfectly fine. The ear popping begins at the 20 minute mark. This time, the pain was only a 3 on a scale of 1-10 (but please keep in mind that everyone has a different pain tolerance). I was really surprised how it reduced the pain for me. I take it off right when the plane hits the ground even though the box says to take it off after you leave the plane. My ears still aren't clear though. However, when I go to sleep the night I arrive and wake up the next morning, my ears are perfectly clear. So to summarize my overall review, I will continue to use them because they definitely do reduce the pain for me and my ears get better the next day vs. not using them and having to go through a week of bad pain. I honestly can't travel without these. How I Put It Inside- for my personally, I had no trouble putting them inside my ear. For example, I would use my left hand to hold up my left ear, then I would use my right hand to insert the item. After awhile, I just started to screw it inside or just insert it in. Whatever method I used, the results would still be the same. How Well I Can Hear- I can still hear the announcements, but I can't hear the passenger next to me. However, it doesn't matter to me since I put it inside my ear around the time the flight attendants are done passing out condiments and I don't usually make conversation with other passengers. If anything, I would just nod or give them some sort of gesture that says "yes please" or "no thank you" in terms of them asking if I need water or a snack. 4For adults with small ears and ear canals, buy the pediatric. These are just too large for my ears. I have had to start using the pediatric ones instead. They work beautifully, but the adult sized ones were actually painful in my ear. If you have small ears, choose pediatric. 3Worked well for meThese were very helpful taking off and landing. I have Meniere's disease, so I experience a lot of dizziness and earaches. For anyone else with Meniere's, these may or may not work for you. These are designed to work with issues that are found primarily in the middle ear. If all of your symptoms come from the inner ear, these may be of no use to you. I have problems with both. So, I still had ear pain at the end of a long day of travel (10 hours total on a plane), but I had no dizziness at all. Before using EarPlanes, I usually had problems walking after I got off the plane. When we arrived at our destination this last trip, I was actually feeling well enough to go out and didn't need to go straight to bed.Make sure you follow the instructions carefully! If you don't they won't work as well or at all. Pay attention to when you can take them out and when you need to put them back in on long flights.I definitely recommend these earplugs for anyone who has earaches, popping ears, vertigo, or similar issues on planes. 5Advice for ear sufferers aboard an airplaneBeen using these things for years and swear by them. Was just getting ready to order more when it occurred to me I ought to take a moment and share some potentially helpful information with chronic sufferers. The earplanes do wonders but you may also not be aware that alcohol GREATLY adds to your discomfort. The pain you experience is caused by smaller than normal eustasian(sp?) tubes not being able to handle the fast changing air pressure upon descent. Mine are especially small i guess because my ears will pop riding an elevator more than 20 floors. Alcohol actually shrinks your tubes temporarily. Do not drink any alcohol for at least 24 hours before flying. Believe me, I've tried a few times when in business class and the booze is free, once having less than an ounce of Bailey's for goodness sakes! Boom! much greater suffering during descent. I also use a nose spray like Afrin just before boarding the plane, first holding my nose and popping my ears and then squirting a couple of sprays in each nostril. I go into the restroom for this embarrassing activity. Otherwise, people think you have a cold and treat you like you have leprosy on the plane. Trust me, these two additional efforts may just make your next flight completely pain free and your recovery from plugged ears post-flight quite minimal. 5These WORK! Look no further if you have excruciating ear painEver since I was a little girl, I ve had ear pain when I traveled. I m not talking about ouch pain. I m talking about I m going to jump out the window if you don t land this plane pain. I ve had excruciating ear pain my entire life where I would cry because the pain to fly was unbearable. The descend is what bothers me and I ve been trying to find a solution other than surgery for years to figure this out.I m happy to announce that these WORK!If you have unbearable ear pain on the descend, you need these plugs. This is what works for me:I apply coconut oil inside my ears the night before a flight, to each ear. I make sure my eardrums are lubricated so that they aren t irritated. If you forget to do it the night before, do it a few hours before your flight, IT STILL WORKS.Insert these plugs one hour BEFORE descend. No need to wear them during the entire flight.Make sure you follow the instructions and twist the plugs all the way in your ears to ensure a snug and tight fit! If you still feel air in your ears after inserting them, do it again or you will feel pain! Trust me I ve tried! If you DO feel pain if you didn t insert them correctly, apply peppermint oil on the OUTSIDE of your ear that is causing pain and this will numb the pain immediately. Do not put peppermint oil inside your ear!For me, these are a one-time use per flight. The box says good for a round trip but because my ears had oil in them from the coconut oil, I was only able to get them tight enough in my ear for one flight. I d suggest bring two pair for a round trip to ensure a snug fit when you insert them. For the first time in my life, I have flown pain free and I will now be traveling via air more often as I love to travel. I hope this helps as I ve tried everything from Eustachi and other ear plugs which did not work for me.Please, please try these plugs. They are a life saver and have allowed me, finally, to enjoy flying. 5THESE REALLY WORK!!!I cannot recommend these enough. I have EXCRUCIATING pain in my ears when I fly without these. I have always had issues with my ears... tubes as a kid, even ear infections as an adult. So any time I fly, which seems more and more for work, I HAVE to have these or I will be in tears. It helps equalize the pressure and I can feel it working. Naturally your body will equalize and your ears will pop and you can help that along by chewing or eating food, even the ol blow your nose trick. But none of that works for me and it seems the air gets trapped in my ears and I have horrific pain, specially if I m congested. The first time I tried this I cried ... but with happy tears! It s the first time I ve flown where I didn t get off the plane half deaf and popping Advil to help the pain. The con is you really only can use them twice (round trip). I figured I d try them for a third time to see if the package was fibbing but nope... I instantly regretted that and was miserable. It can be expensive if you fly a lot but worth the money so I don t mind. They say you can take these out mid flight but I wear them the whole time since it helps drown out other people talking and the engine noise, but they are also super comfortable for my small ears and I don t notice them being in.If you suffer from pain like me at least give it a try... it changed my flying experience forever, it might change yours too! 5Won't fly without themI used to have excruciating pain every time I flew, as well as up to 3 days for my ears to "pop" after a flight. I was told to use these in combination with Sudafed (the kind you sign for at the counter not buy off the shelf)....works like a charm. Last flight was to Vegas, and I actually used these at a concert there as well. I know these are not designed for ear protection at concerts, but they worked quite well for me....less muffling than normal ear plugs, but took the edge off the volume, and zero ringing afterwards. I can't find these in stores easily anymore, so now stock up here. 5I cannot fly without these!!These are a lifesaver! Before discovering these, I would dread flights. My ears were so painful and I would have such terrible pressure headaches that it made the whole trip miserable. Since using these, I can actually survive a flight without losing my hearing or feeling as if my head might burst from the pressure. These are magic! I will say that they are slightly uncomfortable during longer flights, but it is nothing compared to the nearly unbearable pain, discomfort, and loss of hearing that I would experience without them. I won t fly without these! 5These worked great for me on recent multi-leg flightThese worked great for me on recent multi-leg flight. I put them in about an hour before landing and made certain they stayed secured in my ear canal. Removed them after cabin doors were opened. I typically have problem in at least one ear for up to two days after flying. Earplanes prevented that and ears were clear before I left the luggage area. I used the same pair for a total of four landings. Will use new pair next time. So happy to find these reasonably priced in a 5-pack. 5I mean like yawned every minute to help open up the tube ...I honestly can t say if it did anything.I am currently supposedly suffering from Eustachian tube dysfunction. My symptoms include a feeling of my ears needing to be popped frequently. Every time I swallow I hear crackling noises. And lately occasionally pain in one ear. I also feel pressure in ears and just underneath them.I bought these because I read online how descent and ascent can hurt the ears. Some have even described it as excruciating. Because of my recent anxiety issues, this scares me deathly. So I read into how to prevent pain as much as possible. I read about taking sudafed before the flight, chewing gum, warm cloth over ear, etc. And finally these things. So I put them on in the plane before take off. When I inserted it into my left ear, no problem. Felt snug. When inserted into my right ear, the one with occasional pain, it hurt if I went too deep. So I kept it loose.I felt no pain during the flight. I felt my left ears pop twice during descent. I cannot for sure say the earplanes worked because I also just kept popping my ears during ascent and descent by yawning. I mean like yawned every minute to help open up the tube and equalize in pressure. I m pretty sure the pain occurs when you are unable to open the tubes and so it forces this action which can be painful. But If you are able to pop them yourself, you should be okay.Again not sure if earplanes did anything or if it was the simple act of yawning. I am flying again tomorrow and I will use them because I don t want to try without it. And I will use sudafed and yawning again. If anything it Gave me peace of mind to have them in. 4
