I think it is a great idea, but unfortunately did not work for our needs.I really like the concept. I purchased this for my elderly mom who forgets to take her pills. That, combined with the fact that she has vision issues and also doesn't know the day or date and I thought this would work great. The first thing I had a problem with was I had trouble opening the pill boxes. If I have trouble, my mom would not be able to do it at all. Maybe they were tight because they were new, and maybe they would loosen up, but I knew my mom wouldn't be able to open them. Since she lives by herself and has no one there to help her, it would frustrate her. Second issue was the size--I thought it was great, but my mom was put off by how large it was sitting on her kitchen counter. She said it made her feel like "a sick person" with a personal pharmacy. I love the alarm part of the medcenter. It has large buttons on top to make for what I thought would be easy operation. I could program the clock so she would know the day and date. It was programmable for up to 4 pill times. It speaks "Good Morning. Please take your pills." it repeats until the red button is pressed. however, my mom could not seem to find the red button on the timer. I don't know why. It is on the top of the timer, and it is RED. I think she was trying to press the red ends of the pill containers or something. It also is a loud timer with an option for VERY LOUD. I made the mistake of not testing the VERY LOUD setting. I thought it would be great in case she was upstairs when the alarm sounded. Instead it scared her, and she panicked not being able to press the red button. So, for us, this did not work. I still think it is a great idea, and if the boxes were easier to open, and if my mom didn't have vision and dementia issues, it probably would have been perfect. I ended up having to return it. 4Very HelpfulI got this for my mom, who has to take a boatload of pills each day because of being in congestive heart failure. To complicate matters she has to take them in the morning and evening and routinely has taken them late, or forgotten to take them at all on a given day. And, she has never had a good system to keep track of what she did or did not take on a given day. This solves both problems. It comes with 31 separate cases which have compartments for morning, afternoon, evening, and night. You could, if you so desired, fill them all up at the beginning of the month, or do it on a weekly basis.The clock/alarm component comes pre-set with 4 different alarms. The only thing that knocks this down a star for me is that you cannot disable or enable individual alarms. They can only all be on, or all be off, so if you only need to have two alarms set you must set multiple alarms for the same time, so more than one go off together. For example, setting the moring and afternoon alarm for the same time. Also, the clock unit talks for everything, which is great for people who have poor eyesight or are blind (although there is not braille on the clock surface, so someone who is blind would need assistance with the initial setup), but you cannot turn that off, so if you are setting the clock or one of the alarms it talks through minutes and seconds which is a bit annoying. Nor is there a real volume adjustment. The only volume adjustment you can make is via a switch on the back that allows you to choose from loud or very loud. So you will get an at least loud verbal reminder to take your pills at whatever time(s) you set (plus a backup reminder a half hour later in case you ignore the first alarm even after turning it off). There is no option to have it just buzz like a "regular" alarm clock.Those issues aside, it is a great option for an older person who has to take a lot of pills, whether it is every day, every other day etc. The compartments are big enough to hold a good quantity of pills unless you take a lot of very large (as large as some multi-vitamin tablets for example) pills. But if most of your pills are relatively small they will all easily fit. It is a bit pricey for a pill case, but definitely worth it under the right circumstances. 4The reminder module was easy to set up and has the days date in ...Have to say, wasnt sure if this would work out or not for a difficult patient, but it has served its purpose well. each 'DAY' has 4 compartments that are bigger than they look, and each day is divided into morning/noon/evening/night. The reminder module was easy to set up and has the days date in large format to match to the DAY date on the pill container. you can set up only the reminders you need. I needed morning and night, so I left off the noon and evening reminders. You can also set the times you want to user for each reminder, example, noon can be set to 2pm, or night to 8pm. whatever time you need it to be. My loved one was sure to tell me how much they hated it annoying them when the reminder sounds, but how much they loved having it as it was truly helpful to them so they could stay in their home. The reminder has loud and Extra Loud settings. I think it will 'remind' for an hour before shutting off. uses regular batteries, nothing odd. 5Nice Solution for Person with Memory IssuesI purchased this system for my elderly mother with Parkinson's. Here are the pros & cons:PRO: Love that it has a full month of daily pill dispensers that are separated into 4 sections for morning, lunchtime, dinnertime and night.CON: You can't fit alot of pills into each section. Probably good just for regular medications but if you use supplements or vitamins, you could have problems fitting all the pills in one section. My recommendation to the company would be to make the separate pill organizers longer so you can fit everything in each section.PRO: This system allows you to program the alarm up to four times a day using either a beeping-type alarm or a gentle voice reminder, so if someone is sensitive to abrupt sounds, the voice option is wonderful!CON: It can be difficult to program because of multi-step process so if there are cognitive issues for someone, they might need assistance to program the alarm. Also, my mother only needs to take pills 3 times a day instead of four, but there is nothing in the instructions on how to shut off the alarm so it doesn't go off that fourth time. What I ended up doing was programming it for exactly the same time as the dinnertime alarm.PRO: Nicely made, and even has a light for the alarm which is detachable from the unit, so if someone needed to go away for a weekend, they could actually take their medication with them by removing the pill containers for those days and bringing the alarm with them.CON: It's compact but not super small and inconspicuous. Expect it to take up most of the space on a small end table or narrow countertop but I guess that's the trade off for having things neat and at your fingertips!Overall, a very nice solution for anyone who might have a parent with mild dementia or memory issues who need gentle reminders to take medication at specific times. 4Lifesaver. Seriously.This product is literally a lifesaver. My poor mother has a fairly complex array of medications and for quite some time, had been either skipping or doubling up on her meds, no matter how carefully I prepared them for her. After she ended up in the hospital (more than once) due to medication related problems, I knew I had to do something to get this under control. She was at the point that she was going to have to enter assisted living, which she was resisting. I finally found this system, which was exactly what she needed. I fill the meds and set the alarm and she stays right on track. Both our lives have improved vastly. In fact, she lost the alarm while traveling and sadly, she's missing doses again and going downhill. We've been using this for years and I'm ordering a new one right now. :) You can buy the components, including the pill boxes separately from Amazon and (the pillboxes) from the Med Center website.A great benefit of the alarm is it shows the time, the date and the day of week. That helps her stay oriented, which I appreciate. 5Large compartments!I really like that this is for a whole month and that it has the clock. The alarms are a bit tricky to set up but once you read the instructions thoroughly you ll know what you re doing. I take a lot of medicines and I m happy that the compartments hold them all. I only take meds at morning and night so I only use 2 compartments in each day. When I was buying it I thought that if the compartments were too small I could just use the first two compartments for morning and the last two for night but they fit well and I only use the first and last ones. My meds barely fit but they do fit. If I get any more meds I ll have to use another compartment for each day. I ve attached photos of how much fits in each one that I use. 5The alarm is great for making him actually get up and walk to ...I bought it about three months back. It has greatly reduced my husband missing his pills or taking the wrong ones. The alarm is great for making him actually get up and walk to the pills, instead of the one on his phone where he would turn it off and say he'd get his pills in a minute. It also has helped me to remember when to get his pills because I can see by the colors when he is getting low. There is only one thing that I noticed, which I somehow didn't notice until last week, but it has two days that say 12 and none for the 13th. It is not a huge deal, but it might contribute to why my husband still occasionally takes the wrong pills. 4I love this OrganizerI love this Organizer! I was my Mother's caretaker for years and I wished I had this then. But I bought one for me just couple weeks ago and it tell me what day it is, month, time. Most of the time I know but its good to hear a voice too. There are other verbal alarms you can add as to when to take your next meds that I don't use but you could, its an option. And the way it works is, when the green tops are showing that means the compartments are full and when you take your last meds for the day you simply place the compartment in with the red end showing to indicate you have taken all your meds for that day.I wished I had of bought it sooner. 5This product is very hard to open.I had purchased this item for my mother who has dementia. She is not bad however she needs reminders. I thought this product would be perfect for her to take her meds. However, upon opening this pill organizer, I pulled one of the days out to see how big the compartments were. They are adequate for her needs, but they were very hard to open. I had a hard time opening them. Mom would have had a harder time since she has no strength in her hands. She literally would have needed a bottle opener to open each lid. When you return the compartments to the organizer they don't sit evenly and square in the holder. there is plastic debris in almost all of the holes and the day compartment is twisted in some of them. not very good quality control. Also upon packing this product up to return it, I took the batteries out of the clock only to find one battery was so hot, I couldn't hold it. Fire hazard! Had that started a fire at my Mom's senior living community would have been a disaster! It could be a great product, however this product needs some serious quality control. Oh by the way...NOT RETURNABLE! I learned the hard way. 1I was skeptical...I read the reviews and hoped against hope that this would work for my dad, but I was skeptical. It looks like it has TOO many things for someone to remember or look at or see... but I ordered it and set up the alarms and loaded the pills in for my dad. I explained it to him, but with his loss of short term memory, really didn't expect him to remember or to be able to figure out how to turn off the alarm by himself. He's 81 and lives alone. He had been having great difficulty taking just one days meds without confusing the day ones from the night ones or did he already take Friday nights pills, ...? If you don't know what day it is, looking at a calendar or a seven day pill box isn't necessarily going to help. Calling him in the morning and again at night didn't seem to be helping, either. I'd stop by in the afternoon and check his pill container and see that he'd taken too much or none or the wrong day (which is better than too many days!).So far, we are 4 days with this system and he has not had one mistake. I really didn't think it was going to work, but thought we'd give it a shot before I had to start going to his house in the morning and again at night. The alarm telling him the time, day, month and date and what pills to take (morning, afternoon, evening or night) really helps him. REALLY helps him. He knows how to turn the alarm off, turn the container upside down to show red when he's done with the entire days pills and to check the time, day, month and date and next time he has to take his pills.For my dad to know he's losing his memory, this is one huge step for him to keeping his independence a bit longer which in turn affects his attitude, outlook and lessens the stress.Filling the containers is a bit more of a hassle than the weekly ones and there's not always going to be enough pills with all prescriptions to fill an entire months worth, but those do not outweigh the benefits of his independence, the accuracy of his pill taking now, and the less stress for him and for me. 5
