These Do The TrickYeah, so I have a problem with the neighbor lady upstairs. This doesn't make much sense to me, but she runs inside her apartment! These apartments are NOT THAT BIG! I had a roommate like this once; she was just a whirlwind of chaos. Unfortunately, my upstairs neighbor gets up around 5:30 a.m. for her morning noise-making. My answer has been to use earplugs, and this has been reasonably effective.Earplugs only last so long. They get goopy with earwax, and they lose that elasticity that makes them effective. I had been using a brand from Wal-Mart called, "quiet please," or something like that. As I said, for my particular needs, this brand worked reasonably well. When my last pair was getting stale, I thought I might look around for something a little better than just "reasonable." I turned to Amazon.com reviews. I read the reviews on these orange plugs and thought I would give them a try.So far, great! These have a better shape than my old brand. They taper at the end. OK, taper isn't the word. They get bigger at the end opposite your eardrum. What's the word for that--flange? Anyway, I think that actually helps. Also, to make my old brand work effectively, I had to really jam them far into my ear, which was a touch uncomfortable. With these, I do not. After a few uses of the same pair of plugs, they are still blocking sound very well.So yeah, I give these a thumbs up.Here's a trick to make earplugs more effective:Just a touch of water to the plug will help cement them in. Don't douse them under the sink or anything, just wet your fingers under the tap and moisten the plugs. Works great! 5No longer individually wrapped. :-(Today's review (4/17/17): Got these because the last time I ordered them they came in individually wrapped packages as a pair. This time, there was just 20 plugs in a plastic bag. Not worth the price if they are not individually wrapped. The picture shows how they arrived today in a single bag (Left) and my last individually wrapped pair from the last time I ordered (right). I'm disappointed.Original review from the first time I purchased (2015):----------------------------------------Work great and love that they are individually wrapped as a pair. 3Flents are better for sleeping!I have large ear canals so I gave the HL Max-1 earplugs a try for sleeping. They fit okay(snug) but grew uncomfortable after a few weeks. My ears actually started hurting! I went back to my old Flents Quiet Time purple ear plugs and noticed the foam was much softer and more comfortable. While at the store I noticed a slightly larger earplug offered by Flents but not carried by Amazon. These are listed as Flents Real Quiet Foam earplugs No. 70085 and are white and green. They fit snug, are comfortable, priced very reasonable and block sound well enough I am sleeping much better. Tip: After wearing a couple weeks, hand wash the Flents foam earplugs gently with mild soap and cold water, then air dry. The earplugs will swell up slightly after they dry for an even better fit and still work well. 2These earplugs have saved my sanityThese are the best earplugs ever! My upstairs neighbors spend a lot of time stomping around, having loud "relations", yelling at each other, or allowing the dog to bark for hours. Sometimes it's worse when they have two small children visit that they allow to run back and forth, jump, and scream for hours. It wasn't so bad when they had carpet but for reasons unknown, they decided to take out the carpet and padding and put in wood floors with no f***ing rugs anywhere. To say that I'm not amused with this is an understatement. I was at my wits end because I was being woken up, I couldn't have a peaceful night at home after work, nor could I relax during the weekend without being treated to what sounded like a herd of cattle doing river dancing above my head and rattling my windows. THESE suckers helped! They block out the stomping, barking, loud "relations", screaming and yelling. I put them to the real test when they had the two monsters...I mean children upstairs running and jumping and nearly knocking my pictures off my wall. I could barely hear them. Fortunately I had bought a pair of shooting range earmuffs previously (which surprisingly don't block out the sound as well as these), so I put them on while wearing the earplugs and could hear NOTHING. PEACE AT LAST!! Thank you Howard Leight Max-1 earplugs!!! 5Living and operating in chaos? No B.S.These things are a BLESSING!!! I was using solid baffled style ear plugs, they would chafe my ear, and cause serious irritation; AVOID the solid ones they'll jack your ear up and don't work that well. These things however are epic, I operate and must concentrate in areas and situations where pure chaos is going down constantly. We're talking machines that will leave your head rattling at the end of the day, areas with really loud sound systems, and other things I would call hazardous environments; I won't digress though, sound is the focus point here in this review. You twist these tightly, and stick them as far as you can into your ear, hold them in place by pushing, and they will slowly expand inside your ear, it creates a custom fit. They are also very soft compared to the garbage I was issued; the solid baffled reusable style, and I can sleep in these. They will not totally silence hard core machines, but it's done enough so that you can be 10 feet away and it sounds like a 3 on a loudness scale of 1-10. They're really effective, if you don't use earplugs regularly, and your body is not adjusted to abuse, anything you stick in your ear will cause a reaction over time, these however are among the best options I've found, that said fight through the pain if you're new to using such equipment, and after a month your ears won't be bothered. Be sure to keep them clean, they will discolor slightly if you use them half the day, then also sleep with them, once a day with antibacterial soap does it for me. You also get a TON of them, it sort of shocked me, got tons of reloads for these suckers if for whatever reason failure occurs. Also a thing to note, remove them slowly, they create a vacuum in your ear canal due to the custom fit when they expand, if you pull them out fast you could hurt your ears. If you want to sleep well in hazardous environments, or operate and need to think while under distress of constant loud sounds, these are what you want, they don't look like much, but they preform and hit where you want it too. Best ones I've used so far. 5best traveler's companion, so comfortable, so effective, sleep like a babe.Yeah, I keep giving these out to everyone who travels with me. I wish everyone could try these-- Stop complaining about the folks in the motel room next door; the person who snores; your rowdy campsite neighbors, etc. etc. You can't control other people but you can control how you cope with it. So give yourself some peace. Put these in and relax. they are so comfortable you won't even know they are there. I think every hotel, campground, etc outta hand these out. When I try to give these to people traveling with me, they often object at first. "Oh I've tried those" "They don't work for me" "I wasn't comfortable wearing ear plugs" etc. I ask them to just give em a try and the next morning, they all think l'm a genius. I'm not....but Howard Leight is! I like to go to bed early and I joke with my friends who travel with me, "feel free to throw a party, with my eye mask and ear plugs, I"ll never know what i missed" 5Sleep through the apocalypseOkay, these earplugs won't block 100% of the noise going on at my apartment complex, but they do make it possible for me to get a good nights sleep. It took a while to get used to wearing them at night, and you would do well to watch a video on proper earplug insertion (and please don't yank them out in the morning - the sudden change in ear pressure can damage your ears. Pull them out slowly or wiggle them).They are on the large side, but I probably have large ear holes. Personally, I find them comfortable.And of course, these would be perfect for any kind of application from power tools to firearms.I re-use them for a week before changing them out. People sensitive to ear infections might have a problem with that, I don't know. I've never had any issues.Great product. 5Made my ears ache :(I am slowly trying every dang ear plug on the market, and these were not the best. They didn't block out my partner's snoring, and I'd wake up with my ears aching and have to take them out. They're a little too big/wide for me. I've had more success with the neon green soft foam Mack's Snore Blocker plugs. 1Best dB rated ear plugsI got these for going to a shotgun event with some friends. They were actually the same ones recommended by the place we visited. They are highly rated and did a good job at limiting the gun sound. Don t be misled by their size, they are even better than earmuffs which can be hard to keep a solid around the ear coverage and this protection. Just make sure you know how to properly insert them into the ear to get a solid mount. I did not have any issue with ear pain as others have reported even after several hours of non-stop use, and I am an average sized male at 5 8 . But then again, I would have put up with it as my hearing is too precious to me. 5The quality of the ear plugs was not as good. I don't believe they were authentic Howard Leight ...I have purchase this before and I guess this is another company filling the order. I had no idea Amazon would do that. This last shipment was much different. The quality of the ear plugs was not as good. I don't believe they were authentic Howard Leight ear plugs, as my previous shipment actually had the manufacturer's label on it. This was a zip lock bag with no official brand name on it. I would return them, but too little money for the hassle. I will just be careful to not have it shipped by Tool Deals. BHP Safety Products carried nicer quality plugs. 1
