BUYER BEWARE ~ THESE ARE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPENCarex Extra Ultra Grip Shower Wall Grab Bars ~ I purchased two; one for the bath tub and another for the shower. They installed easily and had a strong suction lock to the tub and shower walls. Late last night I heard a loud thud. I thought something had fallen off a shelf in the closet. Nope ~ it was the grab bar / grip in the the shower; spontaneously let loose and feel across the shower hitting the wall. So I thought maybe it was a fluke or I had installed it incorrectly. I re-installed both suction grab bars again per the instructions. I was getting out of the bath tub this morning and went to use the grab bar to steady myself climbing out. The top half of the grab bar swung loose and I lost my footing. Thankfully, I was not hurt, just upset especially when I realized I could have broken an arm or a leg.BUYER BEWARE ~ if you are counting on these things to offer security and protection, DON'T. These are broken bones waiting to happen. I don't know if I can return them, the packaging is such that it needs to be destroyed to remove the grab bars, but I am going to try. 1They also have indicators on them that let you know that they are installed correctly and they hold like they are supposed toI purchased three (3) of these Grab Bars and immediately stuck them in my ceramic tile shower the day they were delivered. I installed them without any prep, cleaning, etc., and all three of them are still exactly where I stuck them approximately 3-weeks ago. Also, I weigh 260 lbs. and have not had any type of issue with any of these grab bars moving, slipping, etc. They also have indicators on them that let you know that they are installed correctly and they hold like they are supposed to. I couldn't be happier. 5Super strong suctionI saw some reviews saying it didn't hold well so I was a little worried because I needed it for my 92 year old father to help him get up from the shower chair. I didn't have anything to worry about. That suction is so strong! I tried to yank on it and I was afraid I'd pull the tiles off first. I am very happy with this. It's a nice size and is extremely strong. I would recommend this to anyone. Very happy with my purchase. 5The person checking it should have good mobility and balance - Do not rely on Carex's ...Note that the description says this is "for safety and support you can rely on." However, the instructions specifically state it should only be used to assist with balance.I bought two of these to assist with getting in and out of a shower. One works well, the other has a faulty suction cup that does not stick. This grip has released suddenly with light-moderate pressure - even with two green indicators. I've cleaned the wall and the suction cups. I've tried reapplying it daily. When tested, one side is usually loose within a day. Calls to Carex's customer service (800-526-9051) are answered by a recording selling various products/services. Pressing any other button yields a recording that you've selected an invalid selection and tells you to hang up.If you buy this:- Do not use this to support or pull any weight- Clean the surface and the suction cups carefully- Check it before you use it - EACH TIME. Do not depend on the indicators. The person checking it should have good mobility and balance- Do not rely on Carex's customer service. Make sure you test it and return it within Amazon's window (30 days). 2Great reassuranceThis shorter .75 grip has great gripping; stays up forever and provides a reassuring handle for helping me feel secure. So far it has not released. I had to return the longer one. I tried putting it upright, at a slant, and straight across but it would not grip. The little one is powerful and I can't remove it at all. I noticed on the one that would not stick that one pad had a flaw so I returned it. l think when they are made right they work but if something goes wrong in the manufacturing process they don't adhere properly. 5Very good Grab Bar, Works great.Let me start by saying that I research anything I buy, especially on line. I received this item last week and I could not be happier, the suction is holding after one week. What I like about this Grab Bar, it has two Red or Green indicators letting you know the bar is properly installed. Red for bad suction and Green for good suction. You can always look at the suction indicators to make sure it is still holding before you grab on to it. I have the older style 4" x 4" glazed tiles and it spans 3 tiles, see photos, to fit perfect. In the photos you can see the Green indicator. I had to move it around to find the set of tiles it would work best on, some of the tiles must not be level, but it was only one set of tiles to the left of the first ones I tried. Make sure you push the Grab Bar in until you see the FULL Green indicator before you clamp it down, half Green and half Red is no good. Any product of this type is only as good as the proper installation. Install it correctly and you will be happy. You can mount the Grab Bar vertical or horizontal depending on your needs. I use it mainly to stay steady especially when I close my eyes to wash my hair. Clean the surface where you will mount it with alcohol first and try different locations until you find the spot where it works best. I would recommend this product. 5Suction Shower GripThis shower Grip seems to hold very well. I'm 6'3" and 300 pounds and it helps me maintain balance and feels very solid on my acrylic one piece bath/shower. I tried putting all my weight on it, trying to pull it loose with no success. I've had it up now since I got it, and it's still stuck on just as it was when I first put it on. Just follow the instructions to make sure you get a good clean smooth surface to mount it on, and don't put yourself in a situation where you're likely to get hurt if it doesn't stick. Always check it first before every use to be sure. 5Work well. Check suction before each use for safety.I had looked at this style before and just wasn't sure about how secure they would be. After surgery, my home health occupational therapist recommended I get these, so I did. I like these because they seem to lock, though it is a bit difficult to close the lock. How well they stay adhered over time depends on the surface. The surface needs to be clean, straight (not warped at all). I got two, and one has remained sturdily affixed since I applied it two months ago. The other one is on a surface area that moves slightly, so the bottom seal loosens over a few days time. I always check both handles before using, and the one that loosens I simply retighten when I check. These are NOT for putting your entire body weight on, but for balance and stability. If a person is very unstable, then screwed in handles need to be installed. For those who just need a bit of help to remain stable, these are good. 5I heard good things about this product and bought it against the ...I heard good things about this product and bought it against the time I might need it. It's good for older people who need a little help getting out of the tub and stays in place the whole time. What makes it great is that it's not actually permanent. You can always take it off the wall with little trouble. 5Good Temporary Grab BarThis is an easy solution if you need a grab bar in a shower or somewhere but don't want to drill holes to install a permanent bar. The little suction locks work well for most situations. It's not really for the case where someone with any strength needed to grab and hold on in the middle of a fall - I think the force of something like that might be a bit too much. But it's great to use for someone that just needs to steady themselves while in the shower or tub. And once the need for the grab bar is over, it can easily be removed with no damage to your tile, etc. 4
