Great Except One ThingThis is by far the best pill crusher I have found for my needs. I can't swallow pills and need to take vitamins, sleep aids, pain killers, and joint pain meds. I can crush multiple smaller pills at one time- sometimes this requires opening the crusher a couple of times to rearrange the pills and screw the crusher top back on. I have arthritis in my hands and shoulders which normally makes using a pill crusher painful, but this one allows me to put equal pressure with both hands and hold it in a way that isn't that irritating. I had to take a star off, however, as the manufacturers should have taken into consideration that the bottom of the pill crusher shouldn't have sharp, uncomfortable edges as you are holding that side with one hand. I use a wash rag to hold the bottom part, but it would be nice not to have to mess with that. 4I've had mine for several years and ....I bought this pill crusher several years ago and have been using it daily ever since to crush my dog's medication. The blue part around the edges is rubbery and provides a comfortable grip. I strongly agree with everyone else who said that bottom part hurts your hand when you're holding it and turning with your other hand to crush the pill. In my case, the pill I need to crush is soft (it's a chewable pill) -- but it still requires ample pressure to crush it into powder, and of course the harder the pill, the more pressure you have to apply twisting in order to crush it, and consequently, the more painful it is to the non-cushioned hand holding the bottom part. But for my situation, since the pills are easy to crush, it's satisfactory. So after a few years, the blue rubbery part is coming off. I tried gluing it, but that didn't work, so I came back to buy a new one. I was VERY disappointed to see that over the YEARS I've had mine, the manufacturer still has not listened to all the reviewers' complaints about comfort, and done something to make the bottom of the device more comfortable. The product is EXACTLY the same as mine that's several years old! What's the point of having your product reviewed if you're not going to make any improvements? Put some darn rubber on the bottom part and charge us a little extra if you have to! Technically, I would give this product 3 stars which means "It's okay," but my disappointment in not seeing any improvement over the past several years, makes me rate it with two stars, "I don't like it." C'MON CAREX, FIX THIS!! 2Good For Big Dog PillsI have a large dog who takes one enormous pill monthly for flea/tick/heartworm control. He won't take it in pill pockets, cheese, hamburger, or any other food. He finds it and spits it out. After a few months of me shoving it down his throat and holding his jaw closed until he swallowed, he learned how to hide the pill in his cheek, swallow and spit it out later. In desperation, I ordered this. I had to screw the grinder down twice to pulverize the pill, but then the powder stirred nicely into a bit of ice cream and, since that's an occasional treat for the dog, he lapped it up with no hesitation. 5Not that greatNot good for smaller pills. I bought this to crush my Mother s pills. It does a really poor job on the smaller pills. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bottom part of the device hurts your hand. It requires a fair amount of force to turn and crush the pills. It does not do a very good job crushing the pills into a powder. It s more like a course grind. I seem to have to open it, shake the medication around and then recrush several times. It s just not worth the pain and trouble. I had better luck with a mortar and pestle. I d return it but it s not worth the hassle. I don t recommend this pill crusher. 1Just okay.....This crusher is okay and just okay.... I wouldn't call it a "Pulverizer' by no means because this is misleading. A true "pulverizer" is one that in one good turn will crush the pill into fine powder. This one functions just like the one I just trashed. It takes several times of loosening and tightening to get it to a fine powder and the powder sticks to the top. I can also see a real problem if used by a senior because the part that you hold in your hand which holds the pill is not comfortable at all on your hand. Soft grips is needed so that this is a comfortable device for all ages to use. Granted I am not a senior but I can not help but notice the hard rough plastic as I am using the device. The design is a slight improvement to the one I trashed because of the thread location. I also think that the bowl coming to a point is a plus compared to the flat bottom container that the other one I had.I am tempted to invent one of these for all ages to use and work properly because its really a simple design that manufacturer's seem to struggle with getting it perfect. 3I do NOT recommend.I ordered 2 of these. I only opened one package, but did not even try crushing any pills. I immediately found out that the lid to the compartment that stores the pills does not stay secure. Even with it empty, I turned it upside down and the lid fell off. I wanted to return these, since I've not used them at all, BUT it says "no returns." Wasted my money. I wrote to the seller, and they never got back with me. 1Crushes a pill easily, works well!This is a terrific pill crusher. I had picked up another brand from the grocery store (Apothecary Products Ezy Dose Ultra Fine Cut N' Crush) but I had many problems with it: trying to get the product out from between those teeth was very difficult, I had to bang it against a table several times to loosen the pieces. The other problem was that parts of the crushed pill somehow got underneath the plastic teeth layer and I honestly don't know how much of the pill I was getting. I gave the Carex pill crusher a try and was immediately pleased that it solved both those problems: You can get all the remnants of the pill and don't have to bang it against anything to do so. It is very easy to use and the results are excellent. The conical tip helps pierce the pill to start breaking it up and the continued twisting pressure finishes the job of crushing it. I highly recommend this product. 5So Far - AMAZINGSo Far this is the best pill crusher Iv'e ever used. What I really like is how big it is. I have huge hands and most of the pill crushers on the market are so small that its a chore to exert the force I need to crush a pill with such a small device. With this pill crusher I get the job done easy - almost effortlessly. Don't get me wrong - there are a few things that could make this a better crusher ( in regards to design ) but compared to the other models on the market its like comparing a ferrari to a ford pinto. The base could probably be a tad sturdier and I wish it was just a little taller so my hands werent so close together while turning the crusher down on the collection bay - but other than that - its perfect. Unless I find something better - This will be my favored pill crusher. I have not owned it long enough to vouch for how long the device lasts with daily multi - vitamin crushing - but if it breaks early, or I experience defects I will update my review. What makes this crusher so effective is the angular crushing bay which utilizes a flat conical surface lacking crushing teeth which many of the lesser quality crushers on the market harbor. The problem with teeth on a pill crusher is that pill residues get stuck between the teeth and it is not only hard to get out - but effects future crushes. The large , easy to spin grip makes it easy to use leverage to your benefit, enabling you to maximize the strength of your wrist and forearm during crushes - yielding a fine powder in no time, compared to the chunky, non powder yields you will get from cheaper markets that leave you frustrated. 5This thing might save your life.I seem to be a rarity, but I find swallowing pills very difficult. I don't know how others do it. I purchased this because I wanted my multivitamin pill crushed along with a thick magnesium pill. I'd tried cutting the pills in fractions to prevent me from choking on them, but the jagged edges that result from cutting them up via a knife were uncomfortable for my throat. I don't even know why I forgot to look up "pill crusher" on Amazon for so long, but I did about a week ago, and it's made my life a lot less stressful when it comes to taking the pills. It took both my multivitamin and my thick magnesium pills and crushed them into small pieces that I then dump into my bland oatmeal. I forgot to use this to crush my multivitamin pill (which wasn't even a whole one, it was a half) some days ago and I nearly choked on the pill. My body was in panic mode and I was very scared. It took a lot of time to make its way down, despite drinking water, which at times seemed to make matters worse. I have to Thank God for helping me out. I gave this four stars instead of five because the contents still stick at the bottom, which is unfortunate. I tried using water to clear it out but it's difficult. Looking toward the future, my only fear is being preoccupied with something else (like I was before) and forgetting to use this to crush my pills. For those who have a severe difficulty swallowing pills, buy this. It's only $6. If you're thinking about swallowing your pill and nobody is there in case things take an unfortunate turn for the worse, then pray to God, nothing bad happens, like I did. But to prevent dangerous occurrences like that from happening, use this.Also, the complaints about people's hands hurting from holding it at the bottom are a little too exaggerated. My hands are soft and while it's not the most comfortable feeling in the world, it's certainly not discouraging to the point that it should make you think twice about getting this. Also, if it hurts your hand, why not set it on the table while you're crushing the pill or do what I do and hold the product on its sides in the air and twist both sides simultaneously, the pressure of the bottom of the pill crusher against the hand isn't as great. 4Not effective enoughI was really happy at first when I crushed a large b-vitamin tablet into tiny bits with absolutely no effort at all, just a simple twist. Then, I tried another large multi-vitamin and it did absolutley nothing, no matter how hard I twisted and pushed it stayed completely intact and whole. I even tried cutting the vitamin with a pill cutter first, and it would not even crush those smaller pieces. So, it appears that the pill has to be fairly soft to begin with before it will crush. I will need a stronger pill crusher. 3
