Surprisingly comfortable and supportive for a compact and fairly reasonably-priced item- This brace is surprisingly comfortable once adjusted. I got it mainly to help my back by supporting both it and the belly I developed by being pretty much chair-bound for a year, hoping it'd let me move around more and therefore lose more of the belly a bit more quickly. - The support is surprisingly good for such a compact and inexpensive brace. The aluminum stays in the back are comfortable, too - no poking at all, padded, and with SOME "give"/"bendability" to let you fit them to your own shape, but it does take effort, which means that they are still sturdy enough to keep their shape. They seem to mainly keep the back material from bunching or creasing. I found the to be comfortable, but if preferred, they are in "pockets" which are open at the top, so the stays can be removed - which probably is a good idea for washing the support. - The back is a canvas or twill sort of fabric that is felted and soft on the inside. The sides and front are elastic and multi-layered - the inner layer consists of two criss-crossed 6"-wide bands with sturdy "hook and loop" closures at the top and bottom, and then there is an additional layer over that of a top and bottom set of criss-crossed 3" elastic, each again with sturdy "hook and loop" closures. - The stitching is tight and overall flat, which avoids irritation. Mine had one knot in the inside which I filed down. - The sizing was a bit difficult for me because I was just barely the size I got, so I might have done OK with one size down. It's always a *bit* tricky when mail-ordering something like this. - I must have lucked into an introductory price, but even at the current $23-and-change, it seems like a reasonable item for people who need some support, but not so much that it immobilizes them. The way it's designed and made, I was still able to sit down, and then straighten the elastic afterwards, and therefore I THANKFULLY did not have to undo the whole thing just to sit and rest for a bit in between activities, which is a "Plus" in my book ;) 5
